Tonina Belem is a unique aquatic plant that features a vertical stem with thin leaves shooting out to the side. Found in shallow waters in the wild, Tonina Belem is an advanced aquatic plant that is not recommended for novice planted aquarium hobbyists as it has very particular care requirements. Soft water and a slightly acidic quality substrate is a must and high-quality aquarium LED lighting along with CO2 injection is required to grow this aquatic plant properly. Tonina Belem also needs a consistent dosing schedule and an ample supply of iron and micronutrients. Tonina Belem grows vertically and will produce lateral shoots if provided with enough light, but often times, most aquatic stem plant species grow at a quicker pace leaving most Tonina species susceptible to being covered, resulting in a lack of lighting received. Propagation is simple and similar to other aquatic stem plants. You can simply cut off the shoots using clean aquascaping tools and replant the cut portion back into a quality substrate. 

This aquatic plant species requires patience and know-how to keep. If given optimal conditions, this aquatic plant is a beautiful addition to any planted aquarium tank and can most commonly be seen in Dutch Style planted aquariums for its unique foliage style.
