Rotala Colorata

Rotala colorata is a vibrant variation of Rotala rotundifolia known for its range of orange, pink, and red hues, making it an ideal choice for adding color and contrast to planted aquariums. Similar in growth to other Rotala species, it develops fine, delicate leaves along upright stems, but with noticeably more intense and varied coloration.

As it matures, Rotala colorata can be shaped through regular trimming to create dense, bushy groups in the midground to background. Its soft texture contrasts beautifully against broader-leaf plants and hardscape, adding balance and movement to the overall layout.

One of its most appealing traits is its ability to develop warm coloration even under moderate lighting conditions, though stronger lighting, CO2 injection, and a complete nutrient supply will significantly improve its vibrancy. Under optimal conditions, it produces richer reds and more compact growth, especially in softer water.

With consistent trimming and replanting, Rotala colorata can be maintained as a lush, colorful focal point or used in groups to create gradients and transitions within a planted aquascape.
