Fern Fronds

Fern Fronds (Pteridium sp.) are a staple in the forest understory, shading the edges of rivers, and providing complex habitats after they fall in. The green leaves give way to dark brown, dried, fern fronds come late summer which makes them fantastic aquarium botanicals for our shrimp, snails, and fish to swim amongst. They do not provide much in the way of tannins, but their aesthetic appeal is unmatched. They are harvested well after the plant has completed its life cycle, devoid of any spores, remaining sugars, or residual compounds. We have personally tested them with fish, shrimp, and snails as a staple in our botanical method aquariums. This bag and its contents are biodegradable! Did you know our product packaging is made from renewable and sustainable sugarcane? So just like the botanicals inside, it will compost when returned to nature.
