Black Cap Basslet

Gramma melacara - The Black Cap Basslet is closely related to the Royal Gramma Basslet, but is less commonly available for home aquariums. This genus is undisputedly one of the most perfect reef tank citizens. These fish are extremely popular because they're not only gorgeous with their bright colors, but they're hardy, robust, and easy even for beginners to keep and feed. Unlike many other small fish, they're not as timid after the acclimation period and tend to spend time in the water column entertaining their humans. They are peaceful toward even the most timid fish like seahorses, but they may be semi-aggressive with other basslets and similar species. They're completely reef safe with ornamental inverts and corals.

The ideal tank size is 30+ gallons. They can be kept singly or in small groups if added at the same time. 

Black Cap Basslets are not picky when it comes to feeding and will take most aquarium foods. These captive bred fish are currently feeding on tiny pellets and small Mysis Shrimp. We recommend a varied diet of frozen meaty foods and Easy Reefs DKI pellets and Masstick.

Gramma are shipped inside a mesh tube. Please do not remove the fish from the tube; allow the fish to come out of the tube on its own. It's best to add the tube with the fish inside to the tank. These fish are small on arrival. We strongly recommend introducing new fish with an acclimation box.
